Chapter 17 of 17
The Garage Completion Standard
A garage floor ends the way every job of ours ends: not when we decide it is done, but when you do. The chips are scraped, the clear coat is down — and the last step of the job is not loading our trailer. It is a walk-through, with you.
The Walk-Through and the Sign-Off
When the work is complete, you walk the floor with us — the edges, the corners, the thresholds, the whole field of it. When you are satisfied the floor is done to standard, you sign the Garage Completion Sign-Off, the same way our paint customers sign theirs. That signature — yours, not ours — is what marks the job complete, and it is the moment payment comes due. Not before. Your signed form is photographed and logged in your job file, and you keep your own copy.
What You Hold When We Leave
What goes into your hands at the walk-through mirrors the paint side of this book, and the sign-off form has you initial for each item, so nothing gets skipped:
Your Limited Lifetime Warranty — issued, not promised. The certificate itself, made out to you and your home and signed — the same certificate shown as a specimen earlier in this book. Coverage and exclusions, both printed.
Your care card. One card that carries everything the floor asks of you: the cure clock, how to keep it clean, the small habits that keep it flawless, and the number to call if anything ever looks wrong. It is built for the workbench, not the filing cabinet.
Your paid-in-full receipt details — clear notice of how and when it reaches you, the same as on every job we do.
A review card with a simple link to share your experience.
The First 48 Hours
The cure clock starts when your clear coat is finished: walk on it at 8 hours, boxes and shelves back at 24, the car back at 48. It is printed in the Garage Floor Standard and again on the care card in your hand — nobody has to remember it.
You decide when the floor is done — and you decide it holding the warranty that covers it for as long as the home is yours.
Our Insurance — the Certificate Itself
Below is our Certificate of Liability Insurance for the current policy period — general liability of $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate, workers' compensation, commercial auto, and a $1,000,000 umbrella. We reproduce it here so you can see it before you ever ask. The current issued certificate also accompanies every proposal.
The Neighbor Notice — the Sheet Itself
Standard 4.15 promises that your neighbors hear from us before we start. This is the actual sheet — hand-delivered to the homes on either side of yours and across the street before work begins, with our superintendent's direct cell number on it. We reproduce it here so you can see exactly what your neighbors see. (The crew-leader line is filled in per job.)
Six Questions to Ask Every Floor Coating Company — Including Us
- Do they moisture-test the slab before they grind — and put in writing what happens if it fails?
- Do they diamond-grind the concrete — or acid-etch and hope?
- Is the base coat 100% solids epoxy — or the same fast-set material as the top, top to bottom?
- Are chips broadcast to full rejection — until the floor can't hold one more?
- Are the products and thicknesses in writing — named brands and mils, not adjectives?
- Is the warranty a lifetime, in writing — with the exclusions printed, not mumbled?
Any company that meets this standard will happily put it in writing. We already did — it's in your hands.
Six Questions to Ask Every Painter — Including Us
- Does the bid say two dry coats — the first coat drying before the second goes on?
- Does it state gallon numbers — how much paint your home actually gets?
- Is the price exact, on the spot — a proposal, not an estimate?
- Is money required before the work is complete?
- Will they commit to an arrival time — not a window?
- Is the warranty in writing, with terms by surface?
Any company doing these things will happily put them in writing. Ours already did — you're holding it.
