You also need to place drop cloths on the floor, caulk gaps around windows and floors, fill in nail holes, cracks, dents and other uneven spots with spackling compound and putty knife. Make sure to clean surfaces and tape around windows, doors, baseboards and other items that you don’t want to paint. You will also need to do priming when necessary.
• Stir the paint and get to work. Most painting pros suggest doing the job in this order - ceiling, walls, windows, doors and trim.
• Allow the paint dry completely before continuing. Do not be in a rush. Usually, if you use latex paint, this will take three to four hours to dry. If necessary, you may add a second coat of paint once the first coat is dry.
